A leading global telecommunications provider faced a strategic decision that many large enterprises encounter: renew expensive support contracts for aging Oracle and Informatica platforms, or undertake a high-risk modernization effort with uncertain timelines and costs.
The organization’s financial reporting, subscriber analytics, and operational reporting depended on decades of customized Oracle databases, complex Informatica ETL pipelines, and deeply interconnected business processes. Previous modernization attempts revealed a level of technical complexity that made continued investment in legacy platforms seem like the safer option.
The organization had reached a modernization stalemate, where continuing to invest in legacy systems appeared less risky than replacing them.
Blueprint partnered with the customer to fundamentally change that equation. By combining business-led migration planning, specialized engineering teams, and proprietary migration accelerators, Blueprint modernized the customer’s most complex workloads onto the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, creating a repeatable migration strategy that accelerated the remainder of the transformation.
The hardest workloads moved first. That is what made everything after them predictable.

Work summary
Blueprint modernized the customer’s most technically challenging and business-critical Oracle and Informatica workloads onto Databricks, preserving business logic and reporting accuracy while establishing repeatable engineering patterns that accelerated every migration that followed.
Thousands
Oracle stored procedures carrying business logic that had to be re-engineered, not translated
Millions
Subscribers whose financial and operational reporting had to keep running throughout
Migration stages automated by Blueprint's Informatica Migration Workbench: analysis, conversion, validation, documentation
Legacy platforms modernized in a single program: Oracle and Informatica
The hidden value
The most important finding was not that the migration succeeded. It was why it had stalled in the first place. Many organizations remain locked into aging enterprise platforms because migration risk appears greater than operational pain, and that calculation is rarely challenged with evidence.
This engagement demonstrated that successful modernization is not driven solely by migration technology. It requires a disciplined understanding of business processes, specialized engineering expertise, reusable automation, and an execution model designed to reduce complexity rather than simply replace software. Sequencing the highest-complexity workloads first turned the program’s largest unknown into its first proof point.
Business impact
Without a change of approach, the customer would have continued renewing expensive support contracts for platforms that were growing more complex and more costly every year, staffing larger support teams across the United States and India to maintain them. Instead, Blueprint:
Modernized the most technically challenging and business-critical workloads onto Databricks first, reducing uncertainty for the remainder of the program.
Established repeatable engineering patterns that accelerated every subsequent migration.
Preserved business logic, data quality, financial reporting accuracy, and downstream integrations throughout, without compromising business continuity.
Reduced dependency on legacy technologies and the long-term operational complexity that came with them.
The resulting platform positioned the customer to lower ongoing maintenance costs, simplify future enhancements, and establish a modern foundation for advanced analytics and AI initiatives, moving from modernization uncertainty to a structured, repeatable path forward.
The solution
Oracle and Informatica cannot simply be rehosted on Databricks. Oracle stored procedures carry years of embedded business logic, transaction processing, exception handling, and performance optimizations that have to be re-engineered rather than translated. Informatica workflows encapsulate orchestration logic, transformations, scheduling, dependency management, metadata, and operational controls that require architectural redesign inside a modern Lakehouse. The challenge extended far beyond technology conversion.
Business-led modernization
Blueprint began from a business perspective rather than a technology one. Business analysts partnered with customer stakeholders to document critical workflows, identify upstream and downstream system dependencies, and prioritize migration sequencing by business impact and operational risk. Rather than migrating applications indiscriminately, Blueprint established a roadmap built to reduce enterprise risk while maintaining business continuity.
A specialized delivery model
Delivery was organized using Blueprint’s specialized pod model, with dedicated engineering teams focused on Oracle database modernization, PL/SQL conversion, Informatica workflow modernization, data engineering, validation, and program governance.
Reusable migration automation
In parallel, Blueprint’s Forward Deployed Engineering team enhanced its Informatica Migration Workbench, developing reusable automation that dramatically reduced manual conversion effort. The workbench automated significant portions of workflow analysis, conversion, validation, and engineering documentation. This allowed engineers to spend their time on the hardest business problems instead of repetitive migration tasks.
Alongside the migration, the customer adopted Blueprint’s Lakehouse Optimizer to keep visibility over Databricks cost and performance as the modernized workloads came online.
